Jets Starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick In Week 9

Jets HC Todd Bowles announced Wednesday that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Sunday’s game against the Jaguars.

Both Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith were able to take part in today’s practice, so it was clear that there was a chance Fitzpatrick would be under center this weekend.

Reports from earlier in the week mentioned that the Jets were considering trade options at quarterback, as well as some free agents, but the fact that no one was brought in was good indication that they thought Fitzpatrick had a chance to play.

Fitzpatrick, 32, is in the final year of his two-year, $7.5 million contract that included $4 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $3.25 million for the 2015 season.

This year, Fitzpatrick has thrown for 1,518 yards while completing 61.9 percent of his passes to go along with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 17 quarterback out of 35 qualifying players.
