Jets & Steelers Reportedly Among A Handful Of Teams Interested In QB Brian Hoyer

Jason La Canfora confirms the Jets’ interest in veteran QB Brian Hoyer and adds that New York could schedule a visit with him as soon as this week.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Steelers are among the interested teams in veteran QB Brian Hoyer.

• Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle adds that the Jets are also one of a handful of teams believed to be interested in Hoyer.

Previously reports have linked Hoyer to the Jets, considering that they have yet to get a deal done with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, and don’t appear to be anywhere close to an agreement.

One other speculative option for Hoyer that has come up is the Broncos, who have just Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian on their roster at quarterback.

It will be interesting to see if Hoyer’s market picks up before the draft, or if teams prefer to wait and see what happens before making him their best offer.

Hoyer, 30, was in the final year of his two-year, $10.5 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $5.25 million for the 2016 season. However, no trade surfaced for him, which is why the Texans have elected to release him in a move that will free up $4,859,375 in available cap space.

In 2015, Hoyer appeared in 11 games and accumulated 2,606 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, one interception and completed 60.7 percent of his passes. Pro Football Focus rated Hoyer as the No. 31 quarterback out of 38 qualifying players.
