Jets To Use Tim Tebow As A Running Back?

UPDATE:

Jane McManus of  ESPN New York reports that “several sources” have informed her that Tebow did not take any snaps at the running back position, depsite the previous reports that he could be used as running back this week.

It is expected that if Tebow were to make any runs it will be in the wildcat formation.

According to sources, the Jets could use backup quarterback Tim Tebow at running back this week against the Patriots, per Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com.

With Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight ruled out, that leaves the Jets with undrafted rookie Jonathan Grimes behind starter Shonn Greene as the team’s only two running backs for this weekend’s game. The lack of running back depth would certainly suggest that Tebow could be used at running back, most notably in short-yardage situations. If Tebow is used as a running back, it’ll be interesting to see how the Jets use him and how the Patriots defense reacts to him, since there’s the potential for him to throw.
