Jets Tried Out 14 Players On Wednesday

According to Howard Balzer, the New York Jets recently brought in 14 free agents for tryouts.

The full list includes:

  1. DE Tyrone Holmes
  2. WR Jeremy Kerley
  3. TE Neal Sterling
  4. CB Robert Nelson
  5. DT Caraun Reid
  6. CB Elie Bouka
  7. CB Alvin Hill
  8. CB Jarnor James
  9. CB Damian Swann
  10. S Trey Caldwell
  11. S K.J. Dillon
  12. LB Vontarrius Dora
  13. G Brandon Thomas
  14. TE Robert Tonyan

Of this group, the Jets signed Kerley and Sterling to contracts.

Nelson, 27, originally signed on with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State back in May of 2014. He lasted just over a year in Cleveland before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later signed to the Cardinals’ practice squad.

The Texans signed Nelson to a future/reserve contract but he was among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason. Houston signed him to their practice squad a day later and eventually promoted to the active roster.

In 2016, Nelson appeared in 11 games for the Texans and recorded 20 total tackles, one interception, and two pass defenses.

Reid, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Lions back in 2014. He lasted just over two years in Detroit before he was waived coming out of the preseason and later claimed off of waivers by the Chargers.

The Chargers placed Reid on the injured reserve with a torn ACL seven weeks into the season.

In 2016, Reid appeared in seven games for the Chargers and recorded five tackles, one sack, a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown and a pass defense.
