According to Tom Pelissero, the Jets brought in free agent DL Datone Jones for a tryout on Tuesday along with receivers Philly Brown, Josh Huff and Paul Turner.

  • Adam Caplan adds that the Jets also worked out DT Stefan Charles and DE Alex McCalister.

The market for Jones is really picking up, as he recently worked out for the Lions and Patriots.

Jones, 26, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.71 million rookie contract that included a base salary of $1 million for the 2016 season.

Last year, the Packers declined to pick up Jones’ fifth-year option that would have run them $8 million for the 2017 season.

Minnesota signed him to a one-year, $3.75 million deal back in March but he was, unfortunately, placed on injured reserve and later released with a settlement.

In 2016, Jones appeared in 15 games for the Packers and recorded 22 tackles, one sack, and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 61 edge rusher out of 109 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.

Huff, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2014. He was in the third year of his four-year, $2,820,944 contract when the Eagles cut him loose last year.

The Buccaneers would later sign him to their practice squad after he cleared waivers and eventually call him towards the end of the 2016 season.

Unfortunately, the Bucs cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

In 2016, Huff appeared in 10 games and caught 16 passes for 113 yards receiving and a touchdown to go along with four rushing attempts for 15  yards. He has also totaled 324 kick return yards and a touchdown on special teams.
