Jets Tried Out Former Steelers RB Dri Archer

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Jets tried out former Steelers RB Dri Archer this week.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Archer had passed on 10 offers to join practice squads since he was waived over a week ago.

According to Florio, the Steelers were among the teams interested in signing Archer to their practice squad. However, Archer plans to wait and see what opportunities are available for him to join a 53-man roster.

Archer, 24, was in the second year of his four-year, $2.7 million rookie contract that included a $506,016 signing bonus when the Steelers cut him on Thursday to make room for WR Jacoby Jones, who was claimed off of waivers.

The Steelers used a third-round pick on Archer last year, so it came as a bit of a surprise to see them move on so soon. Although, Archer hasn’t exactly had a big impact in the NFL thus far.

This season, Archer has appeared in eight games and total 354 kick return yards for the Steelers.
