Jets Use Low-Round Tender On WR Kenbrell Thompkins

Rand Getlin of NFL Media reports that the Jets have placed a low-round tender WR Kenbrell Thompkins.

The low-round tender will cost the Jets $1,671,000 for the 2016 season and give them the right of first refusal on any contract offer they receive. However, if they elect to not match an offer sheet, the would not receive any compensation for him.

Thompkins, 27, signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati back in 2013. He was able to make the Patriots 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but released a few months into of the 2014 regular season.

The Raiders wound up claiming Thompkins off of waivers, but he was unfortunately among their final roster cuts. Thompkins briefly returned to the Patriots before signing to the Jets’ practice squad midseason.

In 2015, Thompkins appeared in seven games and caught 17 passes for 165 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
