Jets Waive/Injured WR Lucky Whitehead, Sign QB John Wolford

The New York Jets announced Sunday that they’ve signed QB John Wolford to a contract and waived WR Lucky Whitehead with an injury designation.

Should Whitehead clear waivers tomorrow, he would revert to the Jets’ injured serve list.

Whitehead, 26, signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic back in 2015. He was in the final year of his three-year, $1.585 million contract and set to make a base salary of $615,000 for the 2017 season when the Cowboys elected to move on from him last year.

The Jets later claimed him off of waivers and he was on and off of their injured reserve list last year. Unfortunately, he was waived with an injury designation and later reverted to injured reserve before being waived with an injury settlement a few weeks later.

In 2016, Whitehead appeared in 15 games and caught three passes for 48 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He also rushed for 82 yards on 10 carries to go along with 394 kick return yards.
