Jets Waive P Tom Hackett

The New York Jets announced that they’ve placed P Tom Hackett on waivers Thursday to make room for QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was just re-signed.

Hackett, 24, wound up signing on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Utah back in May. He was competing for a job with Lachlan Edwards, but it appears as though the Jets preferred to go with Edwards.

During his four-year college career, Hackett totaled 10,933 punt yards on 242 attempts (45.2 average) with 44 percent of his career punts inside the opposing 20-yard line, and 21 percent inside the 10. He won the Ray Guy Award twice during his college career, which is handed out to the nation’s top punter.
