Jets Waive TE Wes Saxton To Make Room For Sheldon Richardson

The New York Jets announced Monday that they’ve placed TE Wes Saxton on waivers to make room for DE Sheldon Richardson.

Richardson has served his four-game suspension for a substance abuse violation, but could face further punishment from the NFL for traffic violations stemming from an alleged high-speed road race.

Saxton, 22, wound up going undrafted out of South Alabama back in May, but later caught on with the Jets for training camp.

He was unable to make the team’s 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but they later signed him to their practice squad before the start of the regular season.

The Jets elected to promote him to their active roster last week with TE Jeff Cumberland sidelined.
