Jets Waiving Former Second-Round WR Devin Smith

Adam Schefter reports that the Jets are waiving former second-round WR Devin Smith on Monday.

Since entering the NFL, Smith has suffered two torn ACLs and has struggled to regain his prior form.

The Jets have several receivers on their roster, so the odds weren’t great for Smith securing a roster spot this year, and it appears as though New York felt it was best to cut ties now and allow him to seek out a new opportunity with another team.

Smith, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Jets back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $5.872 million rookie contract that includes $3.667 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $705,000 for the 2018 season.

In 2016, Smith was limited to appearing in just four games and caught one pass for 20 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
