Darrelle Revis Will Undergo Surgery, Jets Will Place Him On IR

Jane McManus reports that Jets CB Darrelle Revis will have surgery on his torn ACL and the team will place him on season-ending injured reserve.

The Jets need the roster spot now that they have suffered numerous injuries, so Revis will have to start preparing for 2013 rather than a late-season return.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan told reporters on Friday that they will not place CB Darrelle Revis on injured reserve in the remote chance that he could be available if the team makes it to the Super Bowl.

“If there’s that 0.002 percent chance he could play in a Super Bowl, why take that option out,” said Ryan, per Manish Mehta.

Mehta added that “there is no way that Jets doctors would clear Darrelle Revis to play in a game in February. None.

While Ryan and the Jets are keeping their options, should they actually make a deep run in the playoffs, it’s highly unlikely that Revis would be able to return from a torn ACL by then. Hopefully for them, Revis will be 100 percent in time for the 2013 season.
