Jets In The Trade Market For Help At Right Tackle

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets “have reached out to other teams” in an attempt to acquire a right tackle who would ultimately replace the struggling Wayne Hunter.

This is hardly surprising, as no right tackle in the game has garnered the type of headlines that Hunter has in the last year. He’s clearly over-matched and the fact that the Jets brass has stood behind him, has only exacerbated the situation further. The Jets have already made one trade to add some depth at tackle, but Jeff Otah wasn’t able to pass a physical and was returned to Carolina and later cut.

ESPN‘s Adam Schefter writes that the Jets are under the impression that Austin Howard can replace Hunter if needed.

While that is a possibility, it seems like the real question here is whether or not the Jets front office and coaching staff can adequately identify and develop talent.

There should be a number of options available in the coming weeks as cut-season is just around the corner.

Former Charger and very recently retired OT Marcus McNeill has recently worked out for the Jets. Rich Cimini of ESPN NewYork is reporting that there’s “nothing imminent” between the two sides.

It is unclear when the workout took place, but Cimini had a follow-up tweet explaining it could be possible that the workout convinced McNeill to retire. Earlier today, the Jets announced that Wayne Hunter had been removed as the starting RT. With Stephon Heyer and Jeff Otah gone, the Jets could have been doing their due diligence by kicking the tires on veteran OT McNeill.
