Jets Tried Out Three Players Including DE Howard Jones

Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Jets are working out free agent DE Howard Jones on Friday.

  • Adam Caplan adds that the Jets also worked out WR Kenny Lawler.
  • According to Howard Balzer, free agent WR C.J. Board also tried out for the Jets.

Jones, 27, originally signed on with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Shepherd back in 2014. He lasted just over a year in Pittsburgh before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later signed to the Buccaneers’ practice squad.

Tampa Bay declined to tender him a contract an exclusive rights offer this past February which allowed him to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2016, Jones appeared in eight games for the Buccaneers and recorded three tackles and fumble a recovery.
