Jets WR Jeremy Kerley Suspended 4 Games For PED Violation

Adam Schefter reports that Jets WR Jeremy Kerley has, in fact, been suspended four games for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Kerley released the following statement regarding his four-game suspension:

“I was shocked by a positive test for Turinabol, as I have never knowingly taken any banned substances. I am 5’9” tall and 180 pounds, and I have never used steroids in my life. I’m a good athlete but anyone can look at my body composition and tell that I’m not a steroid user. While I did not have enough time prior to the deadline to resolve this case, I fully intend to investigate this matter until I am able to figure out what caused the positive test, because I know that I have done nothing wrong. When I find out what substance was tainted, I will pursue all remedies at that time because this is not right. I have and will always be a clean player, and I look forward to returning to the Jets to play against the Saints next month.

A report surfaced last week that Kerley was going to be suspended, but there had yet to be an official announcement until now.

Kerley, 28, is a former fifth-round pick of the Jets back in 2011. He spent five years in New York before he was released back in March of last year and later signed to a one-year contract worth over $1 million by the Lions.

Detroit elected to trade Kerley to the 49ers in exchange for OL Brandon Thomas coming out of the preseason in 2016.

The 49ers signed Kerley to a three-year, $10.5 million deal that included a $1.7 million signing bonus back in March only to cut him loose coming out of the preseason. Kerley signed on with the Jets soon after.

In 2017, Kerley has appeared in seven games and caught 22 passes for 217 yards receiving and one touchdown.
