Jets WR Santonio Holmes “Milking Injury” To Avoid Training Camp?

Brian Costello of the New York Post reports that members of the Jets organization believe WR Santonio Holmes is trying to avoid training camp by “milking” his foot injury.

According to Costello’s source, people around the team believe Holmes is actually “healthier than he is letting on.

Holmes has reportedly been cleared to begin football activities by the foot specialist in North Carolina, Dr. Robert Anderson, who operated on him.

Holmes suffered a Lisfranc injury 11 months ago, but claims that he’s still unable to run routes. Some expect Holmes to pronounce himself ready to play once they are closer to the start of the season.

This is not the first time Holmes has missed the Jets training camp.  Last year, Holmes missed the Jets offseason program with a rib injury along with “general body soreness.”  When Holmes is on the field for the Jets the offense seems to be more productive, so it’s understandable why the Jets want him on the field now.

Holmes, 29, has a guaranteed base salary of $8.25 million coming his way this season, thanks in large part to former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum handing him an absurd contract extension. At this point, there appears to be almost no chance of Holmes returning to the Jets next season.
