John Abraham Not Considering Retirement, Will Seek New Opportunity

D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution spoke with DE John Abraham regarding his whether or not he’ll be returning to the league.

“I am 34-years old and I still feel like I have a couple of more years left in me so hopefully” said Abraham  “I still have a couple of more miles left on these wheels.”

Abraham, a 13 year veteran, was released by the Falcons along with RB Michael Turner and CB Dunta Robinson to help the team’s salary cap situation. In all, the team was able to free up around $15.9 million by releasing these veterans.

Last year, he tallied 10 sacks for the Falcons, which was by far the most of anyone on their team. At 34, he could still have an impact a pass rusher, but it’s doubtful that he’ll be able to secure a solid contract on the open market.

He’s a better fit in 4-3 defensive schemes, so he could surface as an option for teams like Buccaneers, Seahawks and possibly even then Giants.
