Titans “Kicking The Tires” On John Abraham, Dwight Freeney Could Be Next

Ian Rapoport reports that the Titans are just “kicking the tires” on DE John Abraham, which explains why he’s visiting with them on Friday.

  • Rapoport adds that Tennessee could also bring in free agent DE Dwight Freeney at some point in the near future as well.

It’s a clearly a buyer’s market right now, as there are only a few teams showing even mild interest veteran free agents. Tennessee could offer both of them a one-year deal worth very little money and see who’s willing to sign now. The Titans are probably offering only a job as a situational pass rusher at this point in time given that they already have Kamerion Wimbley and Derrick Morgan starting at defensive end.

We have both Abraham and Freeney listed in our Best Available Free Agents list.

Jim Wyatt reports that the Titans have scheduled a visit with free agent DE John Abraham for this Friday.

Abraham, 34, has found very little interest since being released by the Falcons a few months ago. He met with the Patriots a few weeks into free agency and also found some interest from teams like the Dolphins and Broncos, but both of them have since added a defensive end to their rosters.

As for the Titans, they currently have Kamerion Wimbley and Derrick Morgan manning their starting end spots, which means Abraham would most likely be relegated to playing the role of a situational pass rusher for them next season. He’s coming off of a season in which 10 sacks, so it’s not as though he’s seen a steep decline in his overall ability. On top that, there’s a good chance he would be willing to sign for a reasonable amount of money.
