Ozzie Newsome On Ray Rice: “It Doesn’t Look Good”

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome addressed the situation involving RB Ray Rice on Saturday, and according to Newsome, “it doesn’t look good.

I did online just like everybody else did, and it doesn’t look good,” Newsome said, via NFL.com. “But I’m going to reserve all my comments up until I have a chance to talk to Ray.

“It’s very concerning,” Newsome added. “But up until we get all of the facts, we’ll allow the process to run its course. I think (coach) John (Harbaugh) said it best yesterday: We will let the facts determine what the consequences will be.”

Yes, I’ve talked to Darren. I’ve talked to John and I’ve talked to Harry,” Newsome told ESPN’s Josina Anderson. “And right now I feel very good about his side of the story, but I also feel very good about what he has done since that to help himself to not allow himself to get in a situation like that again. I guess that’s the best way to say it.“

Robert Klemko of MMQB.com reported last night that police are in possession of a yet-to-be-released video that shows Rice knocking his fiancée unconscious.

TMZ has already released a video of Rice dragging his unconscious fiancée out of an elevator on Wednesday. It was long after that a court summons from the incident was made available online in which it outlined the chargers against Rice.

The Ravens have said that they have no intention of releasing him this offseason, despite the fact that he’s involved in a serious off-the-field matter and is coming off of a horrible season.

Baltimore would actually take a $5.5 million cap hit by releasing him because of pro-rated bonuses. However, designating him as a June-1 release would free up $4 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com.

We’ll have more regarding a possible suspension for Rice as the news is available.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh was asked if there was a scenario where RB Ray Rice wouldn’t be back with the team following the recent incident in which Rice struck his fiancée rendering her unconscious.

“Not that I’m aware of,” Harbaugh responded, per Aaron Wilson.

Harbaugh also mentioned that Rice and his fiancée are “getting a lot of counseling” and expects the facts to ultimately determine the consequences for Rice moving forward, per Aaron Wilson.
