Johnny Knox Wants To Stay In Chicago

Johnny Knox discussed the speculation about the possibility of him seeking a trade Thursday afternoon.

I’m a Bear, and I want to stay a Bear for life,” Knox said. Asked about a Chicago Tribune report that he could push for a trade, Knox responded, “I could see where people were coming from, but it was basically people trying to stir something up.”

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that a team source mentioned that there’s a “better than fair chance” that WR Johnny Knox will request to be traded if he’s not one of the teams starting wide receivers at the beginning of the season.

Martz tried to explain the teams decision to move him down the depth chart.

You just don’t get there in a year. Not at the ‘X’ (primary) receiver. That’s the position,” Martz explained. “Not only does he have to prepare better. Just with everything, he has to be a perfectionist. And young players feel like it’s given to them, when it’s not. So he’s learning that, just like everybody else.”

Biggs noted that there’s guarantee that the Bears would facilitate any of Knox’s trade demands.

Brad Biggs reports that the Chicago Bears have released their latest depth chart which has WR Johnny Knoxlisted as the teams second-string X receiver behind Roy Williams.

The second-string X receiver will end up being the teams number four wide receiver which makes it unlikely that he’ll see the field unless it’s a four-wide receiver set.

Knox has brilliant speed but has come under scrutiny for his route running and catching ability. Last year, the chemistry between Knox and QB Jay Cutler looked like it needed some work but moving him down to the teams number four-wide receiver isn’t going to help his development.
