Jordy Nelson & Randall Cobb Could Be Release/Pay Cut Candidates For Packers

According to Rob Devmosky of ESPN, one or both of Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, who both in the final year of their respective contracts, could be in danger of being released or asked to take a pay cut this offseason.

This comes shortly after the news that Green Bay has locked up WR Davante Adams to a four-year, $56 million extension on Friday (NFLTR).

Nelson recently indicated offered an interesting response when asked if he could be done as NFL player.

“I don’t know,” Nelson said, via Jason Wilde of Madison.com. “I’ll look at myself after the season. That’s the question I’ll have for personnel (people). I think it’s hard for me to judge it personally.

“There’s a lot to it,” Nelson added. “I don’t know (if I’m not the same player). I can’t give you the answer. That’s a conversation I’ll have at the end of the year with coaches, see what they think. They haven’t told me any different. I would hope if that was the case they would have started changing playing time or something to help the team out. So, that’s their decision, not mine.

Nelson, 32, is a former second-round pick of the Packers back in 2008. He’ll be entering the final year of his five-year, $43 million contract and set to make a base salary of $9.25 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Nelson appeared in 15 games for the Packers and caught 53 passes for 482 yards receiving and six touchdowns.

Cobb, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Packers back in 2011. He’ll be entering the four-year, $40 million contract that included $17 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $8.6 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Cobb has appeared in 14 games for the Packers and caught 62 passes for 608 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
