Josh Freeman Has A Concussion, Christian Ponder Likely To Start In Week 8

Vikings HC Leslie Frazier announced that QB Josh Freeman has concussion-like symptoms and Christian Ponder is now working with the first-team offense.

Frazier mentioned that Ponder will start if Freeman is unable to play on Sunday and added that it’s “more than likely” Ponder will be under center for Week 8’s game against the Packers.

Frazier said that they didn’t notice any signs of Freeman having a concussion following Monday night’s game. Freeman believes he suffered the head injury during the third quarter, but didn’t say anything to the coaching staff.

Freeman is coming off of a brutal performance against the Giants Monday night, so it was at least a little surprising to hear that they were moving forward with Freeman as their starter this week. Clearly, Ponder gives them the best shot at winning, even though he’s been pretty bad in the past.

We’ll have more regarding Freeman’s status and who will be the Vikings starter as the news is available.
