Update:

Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports that the free agent QB Josh McCown wrapped up his visit with the Browns on Wednesday without signing a contract.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that free agent QB Josh McCown is expected to make a decision regarding his next team by the end of the week, and no later than early next week.

According to La Canfora, the Bills, Jets, Bears and Browns remain “very interested” in signing McCown.

Given the level of interest, La Canfora can see McCown walking away with a contract that pays him $5 million a year when all is said and done.

La Canfora seems to think the Bills and Browns are likely to be the favorites to ultimately get an agreement in place with McCown.

  • ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported last night McCown is visiting the Browns on Tuesday and into Wednesday.
  • Ian Rapoport previously reported that eight NFL teams have shown some level interest in McCown since he became available, so we’ll have to see if more visits are lined up for later in the week.

In the end, it could come down to which teams is willing to give McCown the best opportunity to compete for a starting job.

McCown, 35, threw for 2,206 yards while completing 56.3 percent of his passes to go along with 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 34 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.

We’ll have more as the news is available.
