Josh McDaniels Declines Bengals’ Interview Request

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Patriots OC Josh McDaniels has declined the Bengals’ request for him to interview for their head-coaching job.

The list of reported interviews for the Bengals includes:

  1. Hue Jackson (Expected)
  2. Bengals STs coordinator Darrin Simmons (Interviewed)
  3. Bengals OC Bill Lazor (Interviewed)
  4. Rams QBs coach Zac Taylor (Scheduled)
  5. Rams pass-game coordinator/TEs coach Shane Waldron (Requested)
  6. Patriots OC Josh McDaniels (Declined)
  7. Former Broncos HC Vance Joseph (Scheduled)
  8. Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy (Scheduled)

McDaniels, 42, began his NFL coaching career with the Patriots as a personnel assistant back in 2001. He worked his way up to offensive coordinator in New England before he departed for the Broncos head-coaching job in 2009.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go very well for McDaniels with the Broncos and he was fired during his second year with the team.

After a brief stint with the Rams as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, McDaniels returned to the Patriots and has been running their offense ever since.

In 2018, the Patriots’ offense ranks No. 5 in total yards, No. 4 in total points, No. 5 in rushing yards and No. 8 in passing yards.
