Julius Thomas Expected To Have A “Very Active Market” With Jaguars, Raiders & Falcons Among Interested Teams

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Broncos free agent TE Julius Thomas will have a “very active market” this offseason.

According to Rapoport, the Broncos are expected to allow Thomas test the open market in the coming weeks, as there are questions about the injuries he’s dealt with and his fit in Gary Kubiak‘s new offensive scheme.

Rapoport mentioned the Jaguars and Raiders as two teams to keep an eye on, along with the Falcons.

The Raiders have made it clear that they will target some big names in free agency and they have more than enough cap space to get Thomas under contract.

  • Jason Cole recently reported that the Broncos restructuring QB Peyton Manning‘s contract may be a move designed to free up some extra cap space that they can use to retain free agents like Thomas.
  • Cole added that Manning could push the Broncos to retain Thomas because he happens to be Manning’s favorite red-zone target.

Thomas, 26, may have had a disappointing end to the season, but he still caught 43 passes for 489 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns over the course of 13 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 13 tight end in the league out of 67 qualifying players.

We have Thomas listed as the No. 9 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
