Junior Galette Fires Agent, Looking For A One-Year Deal With Incentives

Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that Redskins free agent OLB Junior Galette has fired agent Peter Schaffer, and in turn, put contract talks on hold with Washington.

Galette will now have to wait five days before he can hire a new agent, due to league rules.

According to Jones, Galette is intent on re-signing with the Redskins and would like to sign a one-year deal to prove his worth.

Washington was reportedly offering Galette a multi-year deal that included a low base salary along with incentives. The problem was that Galette’s agent was advising him to take the offer from the Redskins, but he wasn’t interested in this kind of contract.

Interestingly enough, Schaffer also represents Redskins GM Scot McCloughan.

Galette was suffered an Achilles’ tear during a preseason practice, which led to him being placed on season-ending injured reserve at the start of the regular season. He was later suspended for two games for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy for his role in a January incident in which he was accused of domestic violence.

Galette, 27, received a one-year, $745,000 contract from the Redskins and is in line to be a free agent in the coming weeks.

In 2014, Galette appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and recorded 45 tackles, 10 sacks, three forced fumbles, two safeties and two pass defenses. That year, Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 4 defensive end in a 4-3 defense out of 59 qualifying players.
