Scobee, who was tagged by the Jaguars, is holding out for a long-term contract instead of signing his franchise tag. Scobee was the third most accurate kicker in the league last year, and has good accuracy from long distance as well.
There is speculation that the holdup is due to Scobee wanting something along the lines of the deal signed by K Sebastian Janikowski (four-years at about an average of $4M per year). Scobee’s side, however, says this is not the case and that they are actually asking for a number less that certain lower ranked kickers.
It’s clear that the Jacksonville front office doesn’t ignore the importance of the kicking game, as shown by the recent selection of P Bryan Anger in the third round of the recent draft. This seems to suggest that the sides will come to terms before the start of mandatory minicamps, the time at which Scobee would have to choose to sign his tag or holdout.
