Kenny Vaccaro Hoping To Sign Long-Term Extension With Saints

Saints S Kenny Vaccaro tells Nick Underhill of The Advocate that is hoping to sign a long-term deal with New Orleans later this summer.

“I think they’re going to wait until after all the offseason stuff,” Vaccaro said. “The draft, once the (organized team activities) get going I’ll be here. We’ll see how that goes. I’m not pressing for anything. Obviously, anyone likes to get a deal done.

Vaccaro also stressed that he loves playing for the Saints and HC Sean Payton.

I want to play for the Saints. I love the team,” Vaccaro said. “I love coach (Sean) Payton. Coach Payton is going to be here. We got a good young team. I think we’re a couple of pieces away from getting to back to where we were my rookie year. I don’t want to leave that. The grass isn’t always greener.”

Vaccaro, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Saints back in 2013. He was in the final year of his four-year, $9.425 million contract when the Saints elected to pick up his fifth-year option last year that will pay him $5.676 million for the 2017 season.

Vaccaro received a four-game suspension for violating the NFL drug policy last year.

In 2016, Vaccaro appeared in 11 games and recorded 58 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a recovery and four pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 38 safety out of 90 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding a new contract for Vaccaro as the news is available.
