Kerry Collins Announces Retirement

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that veteran QB Kerry Collins has announced his retirement after sixteen-years in the NFL.

ESPN AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky takes a look at how Collins retirement will effect the Titans quarterback position.

Matt Hasselbeck‘s value just went up. If the Titans don’t land him, who are the possibilities? The list isn’t a good one. It’s headlined by Marc Bulger, Trent Edwards, Matt Leinart and Matt Moore. Locker needs a full training camp to have a chance to be effective if he’s the team’s best option come its opener. None of the scenarios beyond Hasselbeck look very good, and he could have much better options.

Bulger’s name has surfaced in the past few months but that speculation has died done in recent weeks. Hasselbeck still seems like a viable option for the team as they have already said that they’re looking for a veteran quarterback that can help transition to the newly drafted Jake Locker.

If the Titans are going to consider an option other than Bulger and Hasselbeck, I’d list Billy Volek as a possibility.

One interesting note about Collins. He finished his career with the 9th most passing yards in NFL history.
