Kevin Williams Unlikely To Be Back With The Vikings?

Ben Goessling of ESPN.com believes Vikings DT Kevin Williams is likely to be playing elsewhere at the start of the 2014 season.

According to Goessling, the Vikings will try to get younger on their defensive line, which means allowing Williams to depart as a free agent in the coming months.

Goessling sees Williams having to settle for a one-year contract with a new team, which seems like a reasonable projection.

Minnesota drafted Sharrif Floyd in the first-round last year and face some tough decisions regarding other free agents like Jared Allen and Everson Griffen this offseason. There is a chance that they could retain Griffen and look for a younger replacement for Williams.

Williams, 33, has spent all 11 seasons of his NFL career with the Vikings and could end up in the team’s Ring of Honor at some point down the road.

In 2013, he totaled 28 tackles, 3.5 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 interior defensive linemen in the league.
