Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph told reporters on Thursday that he would like to get a contract extension worked out with the Vikings that would keep him in Minnesota for the foreseeable future.
“Obviously, my financial situation is completely in their hands right now,” Rudolph said, via the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “I’ve got one year left on my deal here and I’m extremely excited for the changes that have been made around here (under first-year coach Mike Zimmer).
“All I can worry about is going out and being successful. The contract will take care of itself. … I’d be more than happy to stay here for a long time.”
Rudolph had previously expressed his desire to sign an extension with the Vikings, so this really shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.
“It’s something that I really want to do,” Rudolph said a few months ago. “I’ve been extremely happy here in Minnesota. … I truly feel like we have the best organization in football, and I’d love to play my whole career here. I love the (Twin Cities) and I want to stay here. Hopefully, that’s something we can get done this offseason.”
The good news for Rudolph is that he’ll have an opportunity to work with OC Norv Turner in his contract season. Browns TE Jordan Cameron is coming off of a breakout season while playing in Turner’s system, even though he was forced to work with average or worse quarterback play for much of the year.
Rudolph, 24, is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is set to make $956,343 for the 2014 season.
Last year, he appeared in just eight games and caught 30 receptions for 313 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 24 tight end in the league last season.
