Cardinals Don’t Want To Rush Rookie WR Floyd

Pro Football Weekly reports that the Cardinals’ first-round pick, WR Michael Floyd, will probably enter training camp fourth on the depth chart.

The word is that Floyd will be allowed to “develop at his own pace”, so he could challenge Andre Roberts and Early Doucet, the No. 2 and No. 3 receivers, with a solid camp.

The Arizona Cardinals had to find a better compliment to All-Pro WR Larry Fitzgerald, so it wasn’t surprising to see them grab Notre Dame WR Michael Floyd in the first-round of this year’s draft. So far, Floyd has impressed Fitzgerald with his overall ability during the team’s OTAs.

“He really looked good in our Saturday practice out at the stadium making a couple of plays,” said Fitzgerald, via Sports Radio Interviews. “He consistently catches the ball. He’s strong and physical at the line of scrimmage. He’s an intelligent young man. He’s really picking up and grasping things. Coach [Mike] Miller will tell him one thing one time in a meeting, and the next day you see him apply on the field.”

That’s a pretty positive endorsement from a very creditable player. It will certainly be interesting to see how he effective he is in his first year in the NFL, but the team’s success will ultimately be determined by the whoever’s playing under center for them this season.
