Latest Regarding Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr

Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, citing a highly placed team source, reports that it’s “highly unlikely” that the Giants will trade WR Odell Beckham Jr. Although, Vacchiano adds that no one can completely rule out the possibility at this point in time.

The Giants would, obviously, have to be blown away to trade Beckham and until they sign him to a long-term deal, Vacchiano expects New York to listen to potential offers for their star receiver.

Interestingly enough, Vacchiano tosses out the 49ers as a team to keep an eye on regarding a potential Beckham trade, considering that they have the cap room and draft picks to get him. Plus, they could use a No. 1 receiver to go along with QB Jimmy Garappolo.

Monday should be a key date in what will happen with Beckham, as this is the start of the Giants’ offseason program. The workouts are voluntary, but with a new coaching staff in place, the team is expecting Beckham to be in attendance.

If the Giants ultimately decide to move Beckham in a trade, Vacchiano says it’s most likely to happen right before the draft and should require a team to part with at least multiple first-round picks.

Beckham, 25, was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $10,406,198 contract but the Giants picked up his fifth-year option last year.

Beckham stands to make a base salary of $8,459,000 for the 2018 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Beckham would free up $8,459,000 of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2017, Beckham Jr’s season was cut short when he suffered a season-ending injury. He caught 25 passes for 302 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of four games.

We’ll have more regarding a new deal for Beckham as the news is available.

  1. Beckham is a great receiver and fierce competitor. Yes, he is dramatic, but what star player isn’t? He has earned his pay and deserves better than what he has received from NY. I am a die-hard Cowboy fan, but gotta give credit where credit is due. Good job OBJ, you will be great wherever you go!
