Latest Regarding Kellen Winslow II

KGTV in San Diego reports that Kellen Winslow II posted the $2 million bail on Thursday and will be under house arrest while being subject to GPS monitoring as the case proceeds.

Winslow is scheduled to return to court in late August for another hearing.

USA Today reports that Kellen Winslow II was arraigned Thursday on a new charge of forcibly raping a 17-year-old female who was unconscious at the time.

Winslow allegedly raped the female back in 2003.

California law allows for certain specified sexual offenses to be charged regardless of the time of their commission under certain circumstances,” deputy district attorney in San Diego County Dan Owens said. “Those circumstances are met in this case. …

“When there is a rape that occurs and the victim is under the age of 18 years old, there is no statutory time (limit) to when that can be charged. That’s exactly what we have here.”

According to USA Today, former NFL TE Kellen Winslow II will face multiple counts of kidnapping and rape charges.

Winslow’s bail was set at $2 million on Thursday after Superior Court Judge Harry M. Elias found enough evidence to move forward on two counts of kidnapping with intent to commit rape and one count of forcible sodomy.

The judge did reduce two criminal counts of attempted burglary to misdemeanors. Although, the remaining seven counts would carry life sentences if Winslow is convicted.

Winslow’s lead attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said he expects the case to go to trial and “this is going to be hotly contested.”

The charges against Winslow center around five alleged offenses that date back to March of this year. The complaint against Winslow II which shows he allegedly targeted elderly women.

A few weeks ago, Winslow was arrested for felony burglary after he was accused of breaking into a home in a mobile home park in the San Diego area.

Winslow was taken into custody a week later.

Winslow, 34, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2004. He spent four years in Cleveland before he was traded to the Buccaneers for the 2009 season.

After another four years in Tampa Bay, Winslow was once again traded, this time to the Seahawks. He had a brief stint with the Patriots in 2012 before signing a one-year deal with the Jets a year later.

For his career, Winslow Jr caught 469 passes for 5,236 yards receiving and 25 touchdowns over the course of 105 games played.
