Latest Vincent Jackson News

Yahoo Sports Jason Cole brings us the latest news regarding Vincent Jackson arbitration hearing that will address the length of suspension that he is facing. Cole reports that the hearing will take place next Thursday, Sept 17, and a decision could be made as earlier as the following day.

We can look forward to some more Vincent Jackson rumors next weekend if he receives a shorter suspension.

Vincent Jackson‘s name hasn’t come up much in the NFL rumor mill this week which can only suggest that we are in need of an update.

Since the deadline for him to sign a new contract has passed, he will now be forced to sit out a total of six games this season, instead of three. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune has since reported that an unnamed team had a one-year deal in place with Jackson but the Chargers did not feel that they were being fairly compensated for Jackson and turned the trade down.

Acee’s latest report may bring some good news for Jackson and his agents. Since the Chargers were unable to work out a deal with the potential suitor, the NFLPA has argued that his Roster Exempt status shouldn’t apply any longer. By this account Jackson would only be forced to serve the three-game suspension that was handed down by the NFL Commissioner’s Office earlier in the offseason. If the number of games that he will be forced to miss is lowered, it could have a positive impact on his trade value.

The Chargers appear to be asking for a third-round pick since that is what they would receive when Jackson signs with another team in the coming offseason.

The same teams seem to be the most likely suitors for Jackson: Washington, Seattle, and Minnesota. Both the Redskins and Seahawks have a need for an experienced wide-receiver, so a deal with one of them would make the most sense but then again, no body saw T.J. Houshmandzadeh signing with the Ravens.
