LB Daryl Smith An Option For The Giants?

Vito Stellino of the Florida Times Union mentions that the New York Giants could end up being an option for Jaguars’ impending free agent LB Daryl Smith.

Stellino points to the fact that the Giants are in need another quality linebacker and Smith could be a potential stopgap solution, assuming that his asking price fits with their current financial situation.

The Bears have also been tossed out as a speculative option given that former Jaguars DC Mel Tucker, has been hired to run Chicago’s defense.

Smith, who turns 31 later this month, is already the Jaguars’ all time leading tackler, but injuries have taken a toll on the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket. Smith has been a solid performer since being drafted by the team in 2004, but he might be deemed expandable after having played in only the final two games of the 2012 season because of a groin injury.

We have Smith listed as the No. 38 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
