Cowboys Place DT Henry Melton On I.R.

Update:

The Dallas Cowboys have officially placed DT Henry Melton on season-ending injured reserve.

Clarence Hill is reporting that Cowboys DT Henry Melton‘s has a serious bon e bruise that is so bad that it’s nearly a fracture.

  • According to Hill, Melton will miss the entire postseason with this injury.

Melton, 28, appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys this season and recorded 15 tackles, five sacks and two fumble recoveries.

The Cowboys will face a decision regarding Melton in the coming months as his $9 million base salary for 2015 becomes fully guaranteed if they exercise his $1,000 roster bonus by the first day of the new league year.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, citing sources, reports that Cowboys DT Henry Melton sustained a leg injury that could keep him out of the playoffs.

  • Rapoport adds that an MRI is scheduled for Monday, but the injury is considered serious even without the results.

Losing Melton would be a major blow to the Cowboys front four. Defensive Coordinator Rod Marinelli’s defense relies on Melton’s interior pass rush.

The Cowboys defense has exceeded expectations as a unit this season, but that is largely due to the play of their linebackers.  The line has been inconsistent however, making this news even more unsettling for Dallas.

Pro Football Focus ranked Melton as the No.15 defensive tackle in football this year.

He has registered five sacks this season.
