“Legitimate Interest” Between The Rams & Johnny Manziel?

Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network mentioned on Path To The Draft that there is talk within NFL circles that the Rams could have interest in Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel.

“Take what you will with this, but this is out there,” Jeremiah said. “(NFL personnel) are saying there’s legitmate interest between the Rams and Johnny Manziel. There’s at least buzz in personnel circles saying do not rule out Johnny Manziel to St. Louis.”

A recent report from the St. Louis Post Dispatch mentioned that the Rams are likely expected to target a quarterback in this year’s draft. However, the report added that St. Louis was more likely to do so during the mid-rounds of the drafts.

“I don’t know if that’s a scenario where he drops all the way to 13 or if they will have the guts to take him with the second overall pick,” Jeremiah said. “I’m just telling you that’s out there, and some people believe it’s a real possibility.”

Manziel is meeting with the Texans on Monday and has already visited with the Browns over the weekend and has previously visited with the Jaguars, Patriots, Buccaneers and Vikings. We’ve yet to hear of any interest from the Rams before this, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t in play for Manziel.

It would really be surprising to see them use the No. 2 overall pick on a quarterback, but there is always a chance they could look to move down in the draft and see who’s available to them.

For what it’s worth, we have Manziel going for the Vikings at No. 8 overall in our most recent 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
