Leonard Fournette Challenging Jaguars’ Decision To Void Guarantees In His Contract

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette has initiated a formal challenge to the team’s decision to void the over $7 million of guaranteed salary remaining in his rookie contract.

This case now heads to an arbitrator, who will ultimately decide whether the Jaguars will be able to eliminate the guarantees in Fournette’s contract after they suspended him one game after he left the sideline to join a fight.

From there, Jaguars executive VP Tom Coughlin released a statement chastising Fournette and RB T.J. Yeldon for sitting away from the team in their final game of the season.

On Wednesday, Jaguars HC Doug Marrone told reporters that he met with Fournette and they’re in a “really good place” right now.

Fournette has $2.9 million guaranteed in 2019 and another $4.1 million in 2020.

Fournette, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2017. He is entering the third year of his four-year, $27.15 million contract that’s fully guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $2.93 million for the 2019 season.

The contract includes a fifth-year option for the Jaguars to pick up in 2020.

In 2018, Fournette appeared in eight games and rushed for 439 yards on 133 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with 22 receptions for 185 yards receiving and five total touchdowns.
