Lions Officially Place CB Rashean Mathis On Reserve/Retired List

Update:

The Detroit Lions officially placed veteran CB Rashean Mathis on the reserve/retired list Wednesday.

This means the Lions will hold his rights in the event he elects to return to the NFL at some point.

Lions veteran CB Rashean Mathis announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday.

Mathis, 35, is a former second-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2003. After 10 years in Jacksonville, Mathis signed on with the Lions where he would play the final three years of his NFL career.

Mathis had one year remaining on his two-year, $3.5 million contract that included a $750,000 signing bonus. He would have made a base salary of $1 million this season.

In total, Mathis recorded 576 yards, one sack, nine forced fumbles, five recoveries, 32 interceptions, four defensive touchdowns and 133 pass defenses for the Jaguars and Lions.
