Lions Claim DE Dwight Freeney Off Waivers From Seahawks

Adam Schefter reports that the Lions have claimed veteran DE Dwight Freeney off of waivers from the Seahawks on Wednesday.

Buccaneers DC Mike Smith voiced his interest in bringing Freeney to Tampa Bay earlier today, so there was clear interest around the league in the future Hall-of-Famer’s services. (NFLTR)

Freeney, 37, is a former first-round pick of the Colts back in 2002. After spending 11 years in Indianapolis, Freeney signed on with the Chargers as a free agent and spent two seasons in San Diego.

The Cardinals signed him to a one-year contract in 2015 and were rewarded with a productive year from the veteran pass rusher. He finished out his one-year deal with the Cardinals before signing a one-year, $1 million contract with the Falcons last year.

The Seahawks signed him to a one-year contract a few weeks ago but was waived earlier this week.

In 2017, Freeney has appeared in four games for the Seahawks and recorded three tackles, three sacks and a pass defense.
