Lions Considering Cutting Kevin Smith

The Detroit Free Press is suggesting that the Lions may decide to let running back Kevin Smith go.

This would be very unfortunate for the young back given that he has showed signs of promise in his limited time in the NFL before tearing his ACL last season.

Reports out of camp have suggested that Smith’s injury has limited his explosiveness to the point that he can no longer accelerate the way that a running back should be able to. All of this has led head coach Jim Schwartz to express his concern.

“Kevin’s a very, very smart football player, and he’s going to do the right thing,” Schwartz said. “He’s got a lot of trust from those things. He just needs — and it’s not so much earning our trust — he just needs to get his own trust with his knee and everything else.

The Lions may actually choose to go with someone who can help the team immediately instead of down the road.
