Lions Could Still Fire HC Jim Caldwell & Replace Him With DC Teryl Austin

Jason La Canfora has spoke to team sources who mentioned that the Lions could still fire HC Jim Caldwell at some point this season, even though he managed to survive the front office shake up from earlier in the week.

Should the Lions eventually fire Caldwell, La Canfora mentions that DC Teryl Austin, who is “very highly thought of” by ownership, would likely assume head-coaching duties for the remainder of the season.

La Canfora mentions that if the Lions were to make this change, it would likely come after their Thanksgiving Day game, as this would give Austin nine days to prepare for their next matchup.

Interestingly enough, La Canfora has spoken to sources who wouldn’t be surprised if Sheila Ford, one of Martha Ford’s daughters, wound up assuming the presidency role and replacing Tom Lewand long-term.

La Canfora admits that the power structure within the team could, and likely will, change once they hire a new general manager.

All things considered, it would be very surprising if Caldwell not only lasted the remainder of the season, but returned for the 2016 season.

We’ll have more regarding Caldwell’s future with the team as the news is available.
