Report: Lions DT Nick Fairley’s Roster Spot Safe

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that Lions DT Nick Fairley‘s roster spot is safe, despite his recent arrest.

Since the Lions have finished up the season, a couple other players have been involved with the law including RB Mikel LeShoure and OT Johnny Culbreath.  Birkett mentions that “some fans have gone overboard” suggesting that the Lions should release Fairley and LeShoure.  That, however, seems absurd to Birkett who says that those players are “too talented” and that “the Lions already are financially vested” in them.

It seems as though Fairley and the others are safe for now, but any further incidents could change their status with the team.

FOX10tv.com reports that Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley was arrested Sunday morning for driving under the influence and eluding the police. Fairley was arrested in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama and has since been released on a $1,750 bond.

Fairley’s charges include:  DUI, eluding police charges, reckless driving, no proof of insurance and having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

This comes just over month since he was arrested for marijuana possession. The Lions received a ton of praise for drafting Fairley to play alongside of Ndamukong Suh, but he’s as close to being a bust as anyone in that year’s draft.
