Lions Exercise DE Ziggy Ansah’s Fifth-Year Option

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Lions have exercised their fifth-year option on DE Ziggy Ansah.

The fifth-year option will run the Lions $12.7 million in 2017, but this figure is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

Ansah, 26, was taken with the No. 5 overall pick back in 2013. He was in the final year of his four-year, $18.595 million rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $2.941 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Ansah appeared in all 16 games for the Lions and recorded 47 tackles, 14.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and a pass defense.
