Lions Free Up Close To $2M In Cap Space After Reworking S Glover Quin’s Contract

The Lions restructured S Glover Quin‘s contract last week to free up some additional cap space.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions have reduced Quin’s 2014 cap figure from $4.55 million to $2.478 million after they converted $2.7 million of his salary into a signing bonus.

  • Birkett mentions that Quin’s future cap figures will go up close $700,000 per year.
  • Birkett adds that the Lions shold now have around $5.5 million in available cap room.

Quin, 28, signed a five-year, $23.5 million contract that included a $5.25 million signing bonus with the Lions last year.

He wound up appearing in all 16 games last year and recorded 57 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions, a forced fumble and a recovery. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the N0. 10 safety in the league out of 86 qualifying players.
