Lions Give Head Coach Jim Schwartz A Long-Term Contract

The Detroit Lions have finally turned things around after years of being irrelevant. For his part in the team’s turnaround, the Lions have signed head coach Jim Schwartz to a multi-year contract extension.

It was only a few year’s ago that Detroit finished the 2008 season 0-16, so the fact that they’ve been able to construct one of the best passing offenses in the league, while winning 10 games last season, is certainly impressive. Schwartz has done a great job of giving this team an identity and changing the expectations for a once miserable franchise.

The real issue regarding this team has been the number of off-the-field incidents that have resulted in 6 arrests since January. These problems can defiantly be addressed, but leadership will have to play a large role in this process. Still, Schwartz is deserving of a new contract.
