Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that free agent DT Nick Fairley is on his way to St. Louis to meet with the Rams now that his visit with the Bengals has concluded.

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams have reached out to free agent DT Nick Fairley, but have yet to schedule a visit.

  • Charles Robinson reported earlier that Fairley is no longer considering a return to the Lions.

Fairley has visited with the Bengals in recent days, but it would not be surprising to see more teams get involved.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions appear to be ready to move on from DT Nick Fairley, as they’ve told at least two agents they are out of the running for him.

According to Birkett, Fairley had interest from about six teams before free agency opened at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Josina Anderson reported yesterday that the Fairley is visiting with the Bengals on Wednesday.

Detroit was in negotiations with Fairley’s agent on Tuesday, but they couldn’t come to an agreement on terms.

Detroit elected to not pick up Fairley’s fifth-year option several months ago, which is why he’s in position to reach the open market in the coming days.

Fairley, 27, recorded 14 tackles, one sack and a forced fumble over the course of eight games, but his play has been much better than these numbers would indicate.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 18 defensive tackle in the league out of 81 qualifying players. According to their ratings, Fairley has been equally effective as an interior pass-rusher and as a run-defender.

We have Fairley listed as the No. 20 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
