Josina Anderson reports that current Lions DC Teryl Austin will be in Cincinnati Friday to interview for the Bengals’ defensive coordinator job.
Austin is currently under contract with the Lions, but this implies that he could be preparing to move on, as the team conducts their head-coaching search.
It’s worth mentioning that Austin did interview for the Lions’ job earlier in the week.
As for the Bengals, reports have said that DC Paul Guenther is likely to move on and could be joining Jon Gruden’s staff in Oakland, so it’s not surprising to hear that they’re lining up contingency options.
Austin, 52, began his NFL coaching career with the Seahawks back in 2003 as their defensive backs coach. He had stints with the Cardinals and Ravens before the Lions hired him as their defensive coordinator back in 2014.
We’ll have more regarding the Bengals’ defensive coordinator search as the news is available.
