Lions Hire Ernie Accorsi As Special Advisor To President Rod Wood

The Detroit Lions have hired Ernie Accorsi to stay on in their front office as a special advisor to team president Rod Wood, according to Tim Twentyman.

Accorsi had been working with the Lions as a consultant for their GM search. Detroit, ultimately, settled on Patriots executive Bob Quinn as their next general manager.

Quinn is reportedly meeting with HC Jim Caldwell today regarding this future, and there has been at least some talk that he would prefer to move on from Caldwell and target Patriots OC Josh McDaniels.

However, Jason La Canfora believes the decision to hire Accorsi means Caldwell is very likely to be safe for the 2016 season.

While that’s a possibility, Accorsi said that Caldwell’s future will be determined by Quinn, per Twentyman.

Accorsi, 74, previously served as the general manager of the New York Giants from 1998 – 2007. Before that, he worked for the Colts and Browns and has since been helping teams in a consultant role.

We’ll have more regarding Accorsi and Caldwell’s future as the news is available.
